in order of increasing price and precision:
1. litmus paper
2. litmus solution
3. universal indicator
3. pH paper
4. pH probe
depending on your usage, most of the time pH paper is used. affordable, precise and convenient. pH probe is way too fragile to be used outside the lab

That all depends on how precise of a measurement of your product’s acidity that you are looking for. A simple indicator like litmus paper will tell you within about 2 pH values if you are simply looking to see if you have an acid or not. If you want a more exact pH value there are a wide range of pH testers on the market that are relatively inexpensive.
There is some device that runs electricity through a solution that will give you a digital read out of the pH number. I forget what it’s called though.
I don’t think I would call it a “gadget”. It is a very well definited instrument…. a pH meter.
